The University of Maine at Presque Isle, also referred to as simply UMPI, is a public university, part of the University of Maine System, located in Presque Isle, which is the largest city in Aroostook County, in the US state of Maine, having more than 9 500 people, living within its limits, according to the 2000 census.
UMPI was established in 1903 and first started as Aroostook State Normal School, being renamed, adopting its current name, in 1968, when it joined the University of Maine System. The university currently offers its students 21 baccalaureate degrees, 4 associate degrees and 27 minor programs, including a 1-year Teacher Certification Program.
UMPI's athletic teams call themselves the Owls, and they compete in 12 varsity sports, in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are blue and gold.
